Snapshots & Backups
Create recovery points and operate Proxmox-native backup archives from Portal.
Snapshots
Snapshots are Proxmox recovery points for a guest. Portal can create, list, roll back and delete snapshots when the Site role allows it.
- Open a VM or container.
- Select Snapshots.
- Enter a snapshot name.
- For supported QEMU guests, choose whether to include RAM state.
- Create the snapshot and wait for the command to complete.
Backups
Portal operates Proxmox-native backups against storage already configured in your Proxmox environment. Backup data remains on that customer-configured storage; Portal does not become the backup repository.
- Choose an eligible backup storage target.
- Select the supported Proxmox backup mode.
- Start an on-demand backup and follow command progress.
- Review backup history and available archives for the guest.
- Delete or restore a supported archive when authorised.
Recommended recovery practice
- Use snapshots for short-lived change protection, not as a substitute for backups.
- Keep production backups on resilient storage appropriate to your recovery requirements.
- Test restores periodically rather than assuming an archive is usable.
- Confirm adequate free storage before large backup operations.
